The pie chart illustrates how radon-induced lung cancer compares to other health concerns. The annual death rate in Canada from exposure to radon-induced lung cancer is higher than car accidents, carbon monoxide and house fires deaths combined.

Pie chart comparing 4 causes of death: 3200 from radon-induced lung cancer, 1898 from car accidents, 300 from carbon monoxide, and 109 from house fires.

The risk of death from long term exposure to elevated levels of radon is higher than the combined risk of all common accidental deaths. We take precautions against accidental deaths by putting on our seatbelts, wearing lifejackets or ensuring that we have carbon monoxide and smoke detectors – Canadians should also be testing their homes for radon! -Health Canada

Radon Mitigation

How Radon is Reduced

Radon mitigation works by safely venting radon gas from beneath your home to the outside. A system is installed that uses a pipe and fan to draw radon from below the foundation and release it above the roof, preventing it from entering your living space.

Effective and Low Maintenance

Radon mitigation systems are highly effective and reduce radon levels They are designed to run continuously, are quiet and energy-efficient, and require minimal maintenance while keeping your home within safe levels.

The Unfortunate Truth

Radon exposure is the #1 cause of lung cancer in non- smokers. Exposure to high levels of radon in indoor air results in an increased risk of developing lung cancer. The risk of cancer depends on the level of radon and how long a person is exposed to those levels

Are children more at risk from radon?

Children may be more sensitive to radon exposure because their lungs are still developing and they can receive a higher radiation dose relative to their body size. Canadian research has shown that children may absorb more radiation than adults when exposed to radon

Why Radon Levels Are Higher in Winter.

Radon levels are often higher during colder months because homes are more tightly sealed to keep heat in. This reduces ventilation and allows radon gas to build up indoors. In colder climates like Central Alberta, the temperature difference between the inside of your home and the ground can also draw more radon into the house, especially through basements and foundation openings.
